01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
A short turn off the busy main avenues of Asakusa leads into a quiet side street where Hirosato serves evening drinks and seasonal fare. Seating is arranged mostly around a counter in an intimate, compact dining room, letting guests watch the owner prepare daily dishes and simmering pots of oden in an unhurried atmosphere.
One of the shop's centerpieces is oden cooked in a delicately clear, savory dashi broth. The light soup permeates classic items such as tofu, daikon radish, and deep-fried ganmodoki patties, while the selection also extends to cabbage rolls, taro, and filled tofu pouches (fukuro). Seasoned gently so the natural flavor of the broth comes through, it has a comforting character right down to the final spoonful.
Seasonal catches from the market stand out alongside the simmered items. Offerings change with daily procurement, spanning sashimi platters centered on tuna to carefully salted fish grilled crisp on the skin. Paired with bottled beer or warmed sake, it offers a steady mix of comforting broth and fresh seafood.
